Necronomicook - tones 2

Here's how he's coming along. Still working mainly in two tone and gradually introducing texture. Going to wait until May to start really messing with color...rimlight the eff out that sum'b#@ch. Also, I think I'll work up a border for the beauty shot made of intestinal lining, ligaments and other gore. Just cuz.

No point having the adult content warning...

...without some occasional adult content.

Lots of borked shit on this, and I was lazy with the rendering, but eh...it's the kind of week I'm having.

Thumb War @ Gnomon Workshop

I've been slated to do my thumbnailing demo in Hollywood! We'll see how this plays with the big city kids.

Also, for no reason, here's a Tyrannid head.

Necronomicook - tones 1

Still a metric fuck-ton* of toning to go, but here's my status. No more this weekend. It's too nice out...

Necronomicook - patches 1

Everywhere I've got a seemingly troublesome area, I'm going to "patch" it with something I like better. I could do this directly in Photoshop, but working on paper is just easier and more fun for me...and this project is about fun!

I suspect I'll wind up patching patches -- already I'm thinking the little guy in the lower right corner's arm could be bigger and grabbier. Could be I'll shrink everyone down more and add 3 times as many figures.

Once things are sitting right, I'll bite the bullet and start painting, but I want to take advantage of my generous deadline and address these smaller concerns, as I so seldomly get to at my J-O-B. I'm the only one to blame if this thing isn't awesome!

Necronomicook - mask-out

Foreground on the beautyshot still needs a lot of figuring out (note : slap in CG hub logo first! / more activity on the ground -- People should be scurrying in droves!), but I've got a lot of the dull selection/cleanup work done, which should allow me to just focus on making the interior bits kick ass.

-I'm thinking the smoke on the beauty shot will be handled with a brush of some kind.
-Concerned about making the waffle iron foreground foot read...
-Will be making another file for the center text and all the little captions.

Once I'm crystal clear on all the design elements (which is something I usually brush past foolishly), I'll do a directional light pass, giving me some quick volume. Can't wait to do that, as this is the stage where things begin to pop. It's all been pretty flat so far...

Necronomicook - pencil progress

Did a bunch of composites of scanned pencils, trying to get a little more specific before doing any tonal work.

Notes :

-I'm not sure "Necronomicook" text will read if composed entirely of kitchen utensils. May have to simply it to scritchy text, using only the gore-waffle as a pictorial element.
-foreground demoness in beauty shot is a rip of Munch's The Scream -- This area still needs a lot of work, but I can cover most of it up with dust cloud and debris.
-ribs added to open oven-chest -- MUST ADJUST ANGLE OF OPEN DOOR -- looks odd now
-Necronomicookbook's escaping spirits warped!
-poo-squirting stream on profile needs to be more extreme
-must figure out right arm utensil on center figure -- little dudes impaled on fork of some kind
-make water tower on back bigger?
-tilt food demolisher forward, so it's less squished and more readable -- play with angle of meathook on lip

<3 from Exula Art

The mighty Nick Miles honoured* me with a wicked digital paintover of this aquatic chick I sketched. Check it in all its bioluminescent, nipply glory!
