Chibi Fellini

Trying to teach myself how to "Chibi-fy" people in caricature.  Vince pointed out that "no neck" is a pretty good place to start.


The lower left treatment seems most successful in this regard.




...And yes, these were all taken from Fellini's Faces.  Just too much fun to put down.

I'm still "twinning" my eyes too much.  Makes 'em dead.

3 hour pose broken up into bits.  Lumpy and inelegant.  Should have pushed the lean!

Some of Fellini's faces tossed in here as well...trying to push them further into caricature.  I wish I could go straight to this stronger statement, but the initial effort always winds up "safe."  Safe art is dull art, and the result of having not made up one's mind about the subject.  I expect better from you, me!

Just needed something to practice rendering, so I pulled out a sketch from my friend Vince Aparo.  Additional coaching from Slide.  Result is still too fussy, and light sources don't ring true.  If there's a "my way" to painting, I definitely haven't found it yet.
