...was initially for pieces done on a computer, but has since become a free-for-all. Here you'll find process work (digital and otherwise), sketch pages and studies, sometimes with commentary.

Whisper -- page 2

This is as far as I'm taking page 2. Gotta keep this thing sustainable and not go too nuts. Onto page 3!

Wet T-shirt Friday Pt. 4

Now with mesmeric BOTTOM BOOB.

Chick on the left kinda looks like she wants to eat that sponge. Next time I'll try a blatant "I'm wringing this thing out with two hands" pose. This one's a bit crowded.

Whisper -- color test

Added flat "local" colors somewhat arbitrarily and then went in and tweaked sliders. Still a load of effects, lighting and painterly touchups to finish this thing off. Next version will be the final. Gah, so much work!

Whisper -- tonal test

Going to try to get as much value in as possible before coloring...

I realize now that this page needs an "anchor" panel, preferably the first, with a stronger tree impact. Dude should be the largest, most dominant thing on the page, but he's not. Perhaps I can pull of a re-cropping of the image...do some creative scaling. Ah well...soldiering on.

Anatomy lesson

Got a much-appreciated paintover from my cousin Becky of RZ Illustration -- helping me with my arm anatomy. Check it...

Whisper -- pencil test

Got the pencils for this one slapped in...a little more done to the lettering. One more pass for color and I can move on to the next one...

Whisper -- letter test

Here's my rough for page 2 of "Whisper" with word balloons. I figure I'll add all "stems" on after I get everything drawn, so I don't have to worry about them lining up perfectly.

I dipped over to dafont.com for some free typefaces.

Also, here's a version of the page that didn't quite make it...main character wasn't bruised up enough.

Evening Cintiqing

Trying to cram in one last May doodle. Rushing into Photoshop without a plan doesn't always yield the best results, but sometimes it's nice to experiment. Eventually I'd like to arrive at an effective workflow that's completely digital -- just so tempting to bypass the crucial lay-in stage and go straight to value. As soon as making lines in Photoshop feels good, it's go time!

Whisper -- page 1

1st installment of a page-a-month comic project between myself and writer Aaron de Orive.
