sketch night - photo diary

I love sketching. I love my friends. Sketching + friends = sketch night!

Some badass art by Avery Coleman here, as well as a peek at The Octagon.  This is a 5-6 person table that's nearly always occupied by a single, selfish thesis writer when we show up.  Invariably, we frighten them off and claim The Octagon for The Righteous.

Top center : Jordan Wan -- You can't quite see it, but his tie is made of pixels, hex color : #000000

Vigil Team Daily Sketches

Ben Lewis, an environment artist at Vigil, started this blog for our themed sketcher-cises, a tradition he boldly instituted. *tips hat*

"Zombie Cheerleader" has a contribution from Joe freakin' Mad!!!

Also, here's a page of heads I drew in a meeting, scanned and tossed up. I never feel like finishing anything.

weapon demo

I did a quick demonstration of "Darksiders"y weapons for a coworker, mainly to show how to use the page in a puzzle-piece fashion, and flit around rather than doing one thing at a time. Was going to toss it, as it's quite loose and throwaway, but I figured I'd post it up instead.

brush fiddle

Today has been great for so many reasons I've lost count. But here's one more to add to the pile : my lead gave me a new .abr file with a painterly brush that's a joy to use. Here's my initial test tinker...

Artgasm : Gemini School Open House

Had the privilege of visiting the Gemini School of Visual Arts & Communication tonight for their annual "Industry Day."  Got back and immediately had to sift through all the photos.  Amazing place.  Amazing talent.  And so close at hand this whole time!

Here's a big ol' collage I whipped together. Thanks to founders Roger and Colette Barcilon for hosting, director Manny Carrasco for VIP-tour-guiding and my good friend Dan Beaulieu for cluing me into this awe-inspiring event!  Whooooosh!  Artgasm!

Newly added to our ranks of epic sketchers :

Certain Affinity's Jason Borne! Shit just got about 30% realer.

My output = more of the usual.

Zombie Cheerleader

This was a drawing challenge at work.

I've always had a strong dislike for cheerleaders, mainly because they were never intended for me. They exist to honor athletes. A different breed of man.

sketchfwiends

Another epic sketch night with my epic sketch friends! This week we were treated to a new member, BioWare character artist Jarrod Hollar. Amazing talent.  Our ranks grow ever stronger!

[below] Unaltered sketch page from last night that I'll be cleaning up for Babe Lab.  Was wanting to do a pose analysis of different ways the hands interface with the head, because I think that kind of tactility is important.  Though I juuust realized I left off one of the most obvious ones : blowing a kiss!  And what the hell, there should be one smoking a cigarette as well.

New Vigil Games Website

I was commissioned to do some stylized portraits for Vigil's new site. Here's the first batch.  They were tinted a different color.

(typo in the file name -- ah, whatever)

Oh hey, also, it looks like our Warhammer 40K vid went out just in time for E3.  Dark Millennium Online!  I got to design (redesign?) that dude with with the book at the beginning.  Model by One Lung.  Animations by Jeremy Fones.
